  1. What is UDL? by Dr. Katie Novak - This quick 3 minute video breaks down what is Universal Design for Learning and what it isn't! It discusses UDL and Differentiated Instruction and how they can complement each other.

  3. What is Universal Design for Learning (UDL)? by John Spencer - This short video (6 minutes) helps understand a historical context of Universal Design For Learning from the disability movement of universal access in the built environment to today for inclusive education.
  4. About Universal Design for Learning by CAST - The Universal Design for Learning framework and supporting guidelines were created by the Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST). Learn about the scientific basis and research that supports the UDL theory. 
  5. Seeing UDL in Action in the Classroom by Understood - Eric Crouch, a fifth grade teacher, discusses UDL in his classroom and the impact it’s made on his teaching and benefits he sees in his students’ learning. 
  6. Planning Tool from the TIES Center. This tool will help you to look at your lesson/unit through a UDL lens. You will find guiding questions for when you have 5 minutes, 15 minutes or 45 minutes to engage in planning and collaborative work. 
  7. Universal Design for Learning: Creating a Learning Environment that Challenges and Engages All Students by IRIS - A free online module that examines the three principles of UDL and discusses how to apply these principles to the four curricular components of goals, instructional materials, instructional methods, and assessments. 
  8. UDL in Under 60 minutes by Los Angeles County, Office of Education - A short (under 1 hour) online course that offers an introduction to the importance of UDL, the core tenets of what UDL is, and how to begin your UDL journey.
  9. Universal Design for Learning: Theory and Practice - by Anne Meyer, David H. Rose, and David Gordon - A book that provides a comprehensive introduction to the UDL principles and practices. It includes UDL neuroscience research and examples from schools, universities, and research settings. Available online and for free with account creation.
