What is Assistive Technology?

  • Considering Assistive Technology is a legal mandate to for all student with disabilities:
    • AT devices to improve the functional capabilities of a student with a disability
    • AT services directly assists in the selection, acquisition and/or use of an assistive technology device
    • AT should be considered for a range of students from struggling readers to students with more complex needs

What are the benefits of Assistive Technology?

  • AT is considered a High Leveraged Practice for  Students with Disabilities. Daily AT implementation with instructional practices can support students with disabilities in
    • Working more independently and accurately
    • Navigating classroom routines
    • Achieving high goals
  • AT can support students in many instructional areas such as reading, writing, and math as well as performing daily living tasks, and improving communication.

How can we help you with the provision of Assistive Technology?

We support districts and agencies in the provision of Assistive Technology by:

  • Collaborating with educational professionals through technical assistance calls to identify the resources to support decision making and implementation of Assistive Technology.
  • Providing a variety of professional learning opportunities for all educational professionals aligned with the Quality Indicators for Assistive  Technology. (check the calendar for more information).
  • Supporting a cadre of professionals who focus on the consideration and use of assistive technologies (AT) in their respective districts and agencies.
