Tri-State Webinar: School-based Autism Assessment Considerations during COVID-19

Webinar Description:

In this webinar, participants will learn about legal and best practice considerations for completing comprehensive autism assessment during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. School-based special education team members will learn about autism assessment modification strategies, remote assessment options, alternative assessment methods, and how to consider the impacts of the pandemic on the data collected. There will also be an emphasis on equitable practices and promoting culturally and responsive autism assessment strategies. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions following the webinar.

 

Learner Objectives:

After attending this webinar participants will:

  • Recognize key challenges with administering and interpreting autism assessment measures during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Learn new strategies for alternative autism assessment, remote assessment, and assessment modification that generate information that will be essential for potential autism identification
  • Understand how disparities in both access and school policies during the COVID-19 pandemic may contribute to inequities and potential misidentification or delayed identification of autism

 

Presenter Information:

Bryn Harris, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the School Psychology doctoral program in the School of Education and Human Development at the University of Colorado Denver. She has a secondary appointment in the Department of Pediatrics (Developmental Pediatrics) at the University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus. Her primary research interests include the psychological assessment of bilingual learners, culturally and linguistically responsive assessment of autism spectrum disorder, health disparities among children with autism spectrum disorder. Director and founder of the bilingual school psychology program at the University of Colorado Denver. Bilingual (Spanish) licensed psychologist and nationally certified school psychologist.
