Tri-State Webinar: Push to Open: A QuickGuide to UDL Strategies for Supporting Learners with ASD

Webinar Description:

This webinar will provide practical and simple strategies that help remove common barriers to success for students with autism, while also benefiting many other students in the general education classroom. Lisa Combs will discuss some of the most critical characteristics of autism and help educators to plan their classroom environment and teaching methods to address sensory, communication, social and instructional issues.

Learner Objectives:

Participants will:

  • Review the characteristics of ASD and common barriers.
  • Review the Universal Design for Learning guidelines identified by CAST.
  • Explore the evidence-based practices for supporting learners with autism.
  • Make connections and correlations between the UDL guidelines and the evidence-based practices for autism.
  • Gain insights into designing intervention strategies that maximize outcomes in academics, social-emotional development and self-management for learners with autism through effective classroom practices.

Presenter Information:

Lisa Combs, M.A., CAS, is an author, consultant, presenter, adjunct faculty member at Wright State University, and certified autism specialist. She has a career spanning 27 years in the field of special education as a teacher, supervisor, program director, university instructor, and consultant. She is also the author of Push To Open: A Teacher's Quickguide to Universal Design for Teaching Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders in the General Education Classroom and the Best Friend Books social-emotional children's books series.
