Kansans Can Competency Framework

Course Description: This asynchronous, facilitator-led course, which runs from January 27–March 7, 2025, is designed for teachers of students in Grades 3–6 to better understand instructional activities to teach conflict management, either in core content or other applicable areas. Through this interactive course, educators gain knowledge of 10 conflict management strategies, as well as resources to apply conflict management instructional practices in intermediate grades. Each week, instructional activities will be reviewed and then discussed with colleagues, with facilitation from a Recognized Trainer. Course activities are asynchronous and can be done anywhere at any time of day.

Materials that will be provided for this class include lessons: Heger, E., Noonan, P.M., & Gaumer Erickson, A.S. (2024). Conflict management lessons [Intermediate] [Teacher lessons and student workbook]. College & Career Competency Framework. (Course materials will be provided at the beginning of this online course.)

Course completers will earn 18 CEUs with an option to receive one graduate credit hour from Baker University (additional $80 payment is required; details provided during the course). Click here to register for the Baker credit hour. 

NOTE: Please ignore the date/time information provided through the TASN website. This course is asynchronous, so you can engage whenever it fits within your schedule each week. Information on accessing the course materials will be provided via email a week prior to the start date. 

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course, educators will be able to:

  1. Describe 10 conflict management strategies.
  2. Assess student conflict management skills.
  3. Analyze conflict management instructional activities, and plan application to promote students’ conflict management within your course content or setting.
  4. Prepare to teach and provide feedback to students on performance related to conflict management.
