This video walks you through the process of launching the Family Engagement Survey—Version 2 (FES–2) through DistrictTools.org and reviewing response counts. The prior video in the series, District Tools Getting Started Guide, goes into detail on updating your school names and determining who can view your DistrictTools.org dashboard. The third video in the series focuses on reviewing results and creating customized reports.
All districts should send the FES–2 survey link to all families in their district at a single point in time (typically in February or in association with spring parent–teacher conferences). Dissemination should include district-provided early childhood programs, virtual schools, alternative schools, and 18–21 programs. Districts should focus on strategies to get a high response rate. The data will support the district in examining their family engagement practices districtwide, by building, and for subgroups. Cooperatives/interlocals can access the disaggregated district data for students with IEPs.
The Family Engagement Survey–2 (FES–2), developed in collaboration with the Kansas Parent Information Resource Center (KPIRC), is based on the national PTA's standards for family–school partnerships, which are endorsed by the Kansas State Board of Education. Family members can take the survey online in 13 languages. Survey results are designed to support district and building leadership in identifying strengths and target areas for improvement. The website, DistrictTools.org, automatically generates school and district summary reports that can be provided back to families in any of the 13 languages.
