Course description

During this comprehensive workshop, we will examine bilingual classroom strategies for deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) students in K-12 settings. Participants will actively learn to implement interpreting strategies that bridge English and ASL. This workshop provides practical guidance for K-12 educational interpreters, with a focus on acquiring and applying specialized methods to include, fingerspelling, chaining, creation of mental images, and summaries, to name a few. This integrated approach aligns with Vygotsky's Zone of Proximal Development theory, supporting scaffolded learning that progressively builds students' bilingual competence while acknowledging their unique learning pathways.
