Kansans Can Competency Framework

Course Description: This asynchronous, facilitator-led course, which runs August 18-December 1st, 2026, is designed for Kansas educators of students in Grades K–12 to teach student self-regulation strategies, either in core content or other applicable areas. Through this self-paced course, educators study an professional learning ebook and lessons to gain knowledge of 10 Self-Regulation Strategies as well as resources to apply self-regulation instructional practices. Each week, the ebook and lessons are reviewed and then participants complete 1-2 Your Turn activities, demonstrating their understanding. A Recognized Trainer provides feedback throughout the course, as well as two real-time coaching sessions as part of Chapters 5 and 13. The course activities, with the exception of the two coaching events, are asynchronous and can be done anywhere at any time of day. Coaching will be scheduled at a time that works for each participant.

Course completers will earn 28 CEUs, with an option to receive two graduate credit hours from Baker University (additional payment is required; details provided during the course). You are eligible to receive Baker credit even if you've taken a self-regulation course from us in the past. This is new content. 

NOTE: Please ignore the date/time information provided through the TASN website. Limitations of the registration system require this information. This course is asynchronous, so you can engage whenever it fits within your schedule each week. Information on accessing the course materials will be provided via email a week prior to the start date.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the course, educators will be able to:

  1. I can explain why we are teaching self-regulation.
  2. I feel prepared to teach the instructional activities in Units 1-8.
  3. I have determined how to provide practice and feedback to my students as they learn ten self-regulation strategies.
  4. I can describe ways to assess student growth in self-regulation.

Refund Policy

Registration may be cancelled up to 14 days prior to the event for a full refund. Cancellations received within 14 days of the event will not be refunded. No-show registrations will also not be refunded.
