In this session, Lee Ann will guide participants to consider the many ways students can demonstrate their understanding, whether learning at a distance or in their classrooms. We explore these multiple means of expression within the context of construct validity--ensuring that we are measuring what we intend to measure. We generate solutions to these questions: What are confounding variables, and how do they compromise the validity of our assessments? Why are options for student expression important? How can we support our teams to provide students with options to show their learning in a way that improves, rather than compromises validity? How do we provide options and maintain a perception of fairness? How do we accomplish all of this with efficiency, rather than an additional burden on teachers?
