Course description

Children and Youth experiencing homelessness (CYEH) are included in the Title I, Part A target population of disadvantaged students; however, trauma, high mobility, and uncertainty associated with homelessness can add educational barriers that housed students may not face. Under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), students experiencing homelessness are automatically eligible for Title I, Part A services even if they do not attend a Title I, Part A school or meet the academic standards required of other students for eligibility (ESEA section 1115(c)(2)(E). Title I, Part A requires school districts set aside Title I funds sufficient to serve identified students experiencing homelessness in schoolwide or targeted assistance buildings. In this 60-minute session, we will briefly review the definition of homelessness as stated in the McKinney-Vento act, the requirements of the Title IA set aside funds for students experiencing homelessness, the allowable uses of these funds, and best practice calculations for the set aside amount.

Learning Objectives

During this session, the attendees will:

  • briefly review the definition of homelessness as stated in the McKinney-Vento act
  • become familiar with the requirements of the Title IA set aside funds for students experiencing homelessness
  • receive an introduction on the allowable uses of Title IA set aside funds
  • review best practice formulas for the set aside amount

Refund Policy

Registration may be cancelled up to 14 days prior to the event for a full refund. Cancellations received within 14 days of the event will not be refunded. No-show registrations will also not be refunded.
