Special Education Administrator Policy to Practice Session (In-person)

These sessions are designed specifically for special education administrators early in their position (3 or less years) and all are welcome to attend. These sessions provide an opportunity for special education administrators to review KSDE guidance that guides local policies, procedures and how it appears in practice within your agency.  No new guidance is provided during these sessions, only existing KSDE guidance will be reference to guide activities and discussions. 

Topics for this session:

• Every LEA must have local policies, procedures and programs to ensure the implementation of special education within the LEA consistent with federal and state law. 34 CFR §300.201 This includes local forms and procedural documents, as well as many required board policies. A list of the areas of policy and procedure generally required of all LEAs is located in the LEA IDEA VI-B Application Assurances section. The review of policies, procedures and practices often occur as part of KIAS monitoring activities.

• Provide opportunities for increased capacity for special education leaders
• Build collaboration and coordination within special education leadership
