Course description

Webinar Description:

High-Leverage Practices are 22 essential special education techniques that all teachers of students with disabilities should master for use across a variety of classroom contexts (Council for Exceptional Children and CEEDAR). During this webinar, Laura Clarke will focus on using Explicit Instruction with students who have complex learning needs.

Explicit instruction is a research-based strategy that is systematic, direct, engaging, and success-oriented—and has been shown to promote achievement for ALL students in any grade level or content area, including foundational academic, behavioral, and social-emotional skills and activities of daily living.

In this presentation, we will explore the learning needs of students with autism, intellectual disabilities, and other complex disabilities and how they can be supported using the 16 principles of Explicit Instruction (Archer & Hughes, 2011). This webinar will include lots of examples, sample lesson plan templates, and other resources.

Learning Objectives

After attending this webinar, participants will:

  • Identify the 16 principles of Explicit Instruction and how to use them to instruct students with Intellectual Disabilities
  • Implement Explicit Instruction principles to teach academic, behavioral, and social-emotional skills
  • Identify visual and behavior supports that can be used with Explicit Instruction to support students with ID
