Whether it is cognitive science, educational psychology, or math education, research has long established that automaticity with basic facts across all four number operations is a critical foundational skill for children to master. This hands-on, in-person session will describe the importance of fluency from a science of learning perspective, address the myths associated with timed tests, tasks, and practice, as well as describe math anxiety. Participants will learn how to use Facts on Fire (M.I.N.D) to build fact fluency effectively and efficiently. Participants will practice using fluency tools, interventions (e.g. Cover-Copy-Compare, Incremental Rehearsal) and instructional strategies in order to transfer the experience to their classrooms.
