Course description

Letter knowledge at the end of prekindergarten into early kindergarten is a valuable predictive indicator of later literacy learning.  This session will discuss the research detailing which instructional approaches are more effective and what skills children should be learning. You will gain a deeper understanding of alphabet instruction and impacts on children’s learning as well as adding a few strategies to make instruction engaging, intentional, and powerful.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand how letter knowledge relates to and is a valuable predictive indicator of later literacy learning.
  • Learn the most effective instructional approaches to teaching letters
  • Gain a deeper understanding of how alphabet instruction impacts a child's learning
