Course description

Workshop Objectives:

  • Learn how to use The What’s the Complexity Framework to guide the educational team in designing an accessible, appropriate school day for the child with CVI.
  • Learn about the CVI Characteristics (Roman-Lantzy) in depth, with particular emphasis on complexity and its relationship to the other characteristics.
  • Understand how the CVI Characteristics (Roman-Lantzy) manifest later in The Range, with an emphasis on late Phase II and Phase III.
  • Describe how CVI affects behavior
  • Understand the primary barriers to visual access for children with CVI.
  • Describe how CVI affects access to literacy and communication.
  • Guide the team in selecting appropriate visual learning and communication media
  • Identify appropriate educational tasks for the child with CVI
  • Determine appropriate learning environments for a child with CVI
  • Determine the appropriate balance between the complexity levels of the environment and the task.

Intended Audience:  Parents, teachers of the visually impaired, orientation & mobility specialist, speech-language pathologists, OT, PT, classroom teachers, special educators or other service providers with a student who has Cortical Visual Impairment. 

 

Priorities will be given to families, educators or service providers serving students with Deafblindness.
