To Reduce Chronic Absenteeism, Don't Skip Out on Family Engagement

When families are empowered to be active partners in their child’s education, students earn higher grades, develop stronger social skills, build self-confidence, and show up to school more consistently. The Kansas Family Engagement Survey—Version 2 (FES–2) gives districts a data-driven way to measure and strengthen the connections between schools and families. Offered in 13 languages and organized around five domains, the survey helps school leaders pinpoint strengths, identify areas for improvement, and take targeted action. When it comes to reducing chronic absenteeism, engagement with families is critical.
