Understanding and possessing the ability to express one’s sexuality can be viewed as a basic human right, yet for many individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), this is not a right afforded to them. Traditional relationship development and sex education curriculum is often inaccessible to individuals with ASD, indicating the need for more person-centered programming that considers the strengths and needs of each individual.

Kate Loving is the Director of Transition Programs at The Joshua School, which is a school that serves children and young adults with ASD and related disabilities in Englewood, CO. She also works part-time with the Colorado Department of Education where she facilitates learning opportunities for BCBAs working across the state of Colorado. Previously, she has worked as a Special Education Teacher, District and State Autism Specialist, Affiliate Faculty at Regis University, and private consultant across the states of Colorado and Wyoming. She specializes in working with young adults with complex communication and behavioral needs.
