Teaching Math Vocabulary Webinar Handout

Mathematics is a second language for all learners with added complexity for English learners. Vocabulary and concepts are intertwined in mathematics. Instruction that capitalizes on this relationship maximizes learning opportunities for all students. Activities, research, and classroom experiences are shared along with handouts that include examples and templates. Skills addressed in this webinar included recognizing how to make vocabulary instruction within math lessons an integral part of learning math, learning many of the language specific challenges with math that are obstacles for all learners including English learners, and learning techniques for overcoming these obstacles that lead to integrating meaningful vocabulary instruction.
