Summer Institute on Structured Teaching for Administrators

Course description

Description:  For professional development to be effective and result in systematic implementation of evidence-based practices, administrative support and investment is required (Kucharczyk, S., Shaw. E., Smith Myles, B., Sullivan, L., Szidon, K., & Tuchman-Ginsberg, L., 2012).  This informational professional development opportunity is designed for administrators who are supporting educators implementing the components of Structured Teaching.  Participants will be provided with an overview of Structured Teaching and a classroom support tool that can be used to guide discussion regarding implementation. Participants will also learn how the elements of structure can: decrease challenging behaviors; improve student outcomes and school-family relationships; and improve educator job satisfaction, supervision, and staff retention. The day will include an opportunity to see the elements of Structured Teaching being implemented in a demonstration classroom.

• Lunch and training materials will be provided.
• If you are in need of a lactation room during the training, please indicate so in the accommodations section of this registration.

Learning Objectives

Participants will...​

• Describe the characteristics and neurology of individuals with autism ​
• Learn about the components of the summer institute training 
• Identify the elements of structured teaching:
  • to support teachers and staff in implementing with fidelity
  • to support student programming 
• Hear from educators who implement the components of structured teaching and reflect on the impact of structure
• Discuss available supports and resources

Registration may be cancelled up to 14 days prior to the event for a full refund. Cancellations received within 14 days of the event will not be refunded. No-show registrations will also not be refunded.
