Session Description:
Critical aspects of our work in educating children include creating optimal learning environments and delivering effective instruction. Thus, we often come to professional development and learning events looking for more strategies and solutions for our instructional toolbox. However, before we can add to or apply different strategies and methods, we need to examine several paradoxes of Pre-K including:
During this pre-conference we will explore (and challenge) several core concepts related to delivering intentional and tiered instruction to groups of children. We’ll learn the importance of understanding “why” a child is struggling, “why” development has stalled, and “why” some of our teaching habits need to change if we are to ensure all children thrive. In order to understand the implications of these paradoxes, we need to become more aware of our own mindset (e.g., values, beliefs).
We will also enhance our ability “see the child behind the behavior”, and attune to the child’s thoughts, feelings, sensations, needs, abilities, culture, and developmental level. By “tuning” in to the child’s perspective, we have greater success in choosing strategies that prevent challenging behaviors, promote social and emotional skills, and meet children’s basic needs. Lastly, we’ll ready ourselves to pair the most effective and efficient “how” (i.e., strategies and methods) with what matters most.
Registration may be cancelled up to 14 days prior to the event for a full refund. Cancellations received within 14 days of the event will not be refunded. No-show registrations will also not be refunded.
