“No student is too anything to be able to read and write.” This quote from David Yoder, DJI-AbleNet Literacy Lecture, ISAAC 2000 encourages educational professionals to expect all students to achieve at the same level as their peers. Children with complex communication needs often have limited opportunities to develop written language skills. However, alternative pencils and modifications to classroom assignments through assistive technologies can be the key to unlocking written language skills. During this session, participants will explore the power of the alphabet for students with complex communication needs and compare assistive technologies through feature matching.
