Description:
This workshop will provide practical strategies and resources to support effective AAC implementation in the school setting. Participants will learn through a mix of direct instruction and hands-on activities and will leave with a “toolbox” of strategies and resources that can be used to support day-to-day language instruction. Topics will include integration of vocabulary and language supports within regular and special education settings, generation of IEP goals and objectives based on developmental language norms, strategies for supporting reading and writing skills, as well as ways to help families support their children’s language use at home. Lessons shared and practiced will include low-cost re-usable activities that are appropriate for a variety of age ranges in both individual and group lesson formats. |
Learner Outcomes:
Participant will be able to:
a. describe at least 3 engaging lesson plan ideas that can be used to support various language targets for AAC users.
b. explain how predictable chart writing can be used to support literacy and device use.
c. name two resources that can be used to support development of appropriate goals and objective for AAC users.
d. describe two strategies that can be implemented to support parents' ability to model AAC use at home.
