Course description

This registration is for PreK - 2nd grade teachers, support personnel, and leaders only.

Participants will receive a variety of grade-band-specific modules on both days for this training, which will provide resources for improving their understanding, language, fluency, and problem-solving skills.

The project is a collaboration between the Kansas State Department of Education, Kansas MTSS & Alignment, Dr. Sarah Powell, and Dr. Bradley Witzel. In addition, hundreds of educators across Kansas providedfeedback and review throughout the developmental process. KMP is an exciting initiative and valuable professional learning opportunity for Kansas teachers.

Learning Objectives

Learning Objectives:

Today you will learn:

  • How to determine the essential components for teaching specific grade-band math content.
  • How to utilize appropriate instructional practices from the grade-band modules to meet students' needs.
  • When to differentiate math instruction using instructional practices that are appropriate for closing the student learning gap.
  • How to generalize instructional approaches across different math constructs at the secondary level.
  • How to incorporate language, understanding, fluency, and problem-solving to foster student success in mathematics.

Modules:

For Grades PreK-2, we will focus on three modules about essential early mathematics content. We will explore; Shapes and Figures, Measurement, and Multiplication and Division. In each module, you will learn:

  • Essential vocabulary for the content
  • How to help students understand the content
  • Importance of content-specific fluency building
  • Ways to help students with content-specific problem solving

Registration may be cancelled up to 14 days prior to the event for a full refund. Cancellations received within 14 days of the event will not be refunded. No-show registrations will also not be refunded.
