Discover how to break down barriers to learning with free and built-in accessibility tools for reading and writing. In this session, we'll explore powerful, cost-free alternatives to expensive subscription-based programs. We will focus on practical solutions widely available on devices your students use every day. Learn how to leverage these tools to support diverse learning needs, foster independence, and improve outcomes without breaking the budget.
Speakers:
- Joy Brown is is an Assistive Technology Specialist in the DeSoto School District. She has over 20 years of experience as a general education and special education teacher. She has a passion for supporting struggling readers with technology.
- Kim Leaf is a Speech Language Pathologist and Assistive Technology Specialist in the DeSoto School District. She has over 30 years of experience supporting individuals with communication and learning challenges. She has special interests in AAC (Augmentative Alternative Communication), Executive Function Skills and using technology to support student reading, writing and independence.
Participants will be able to:
- Come away from the session with 1-3 new tools to support reading or writing in your setting.
- Make a plan to implement or trial the tools with a specific student or students.
Share the new tools with at least one colleague.
