Course description

Description:

There is a stronger demand than ever to provide functional and “real world” skills to students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and other disabilities. Although official transition planning usually begins in high school, outcome studies reveal the need for this planning to begin much earlier in a student’s life. This webinar will focus on how to implement functional and transition focused instruction and curriculum in elementary and middle school environments.

Participants will be able to:

  1. Name the essential skills students need to be successful in post school environments.
  2. Identify a variety of functional curriculum to be used across grade levels.
  3. Identify instructional strategies and supports to be utilized in elementary and middle school settings, that will lead to greater success in post school environments.

 Who Should Attend:

Administrators, general education teachers, specialist teachers, family members, paraprofessionals, special education professionals, and related service providers.

Presenter Information:

Kate Loving, BCBA, is an Autism Specialist with the Colorado Department of Education. She is a former special education teacher and district autism and transition specialist. As a private BCBA, she works with young adults with complex behavioral and communication needs, as they transition from school to community environments.
