Unit 7 of LETRS incorporates everything learned in previous LETRS units into an effective reading comprehension lesson plan. A lesson plan template is provided to help organize effective practices for before-, during-, and after-reading activities. The goal is to allow teachers time to use the information learned up to this point by planning and implementing a lesson of their own.
Participants will be able to define and find “high-quality” text. They will integrate comprehension strategies supported by research into before-, during-, and after-reading lesson plans. The importance of generating questions that deepen understanding of text and facilitate inferencing will be demonstrated. Participants will also learn how to help students select, represent, analyze, apply, and/or remember the enduring understandings from reading a narrative. Participants will learn how to plan an entire lesson for both narrative and informational text and how to adapt and adjust lessons for special populations.
Registration may be cancelled up to 14 days prior to the event for a full refund. Cancellations received within 14 days of the event will not be refunded. No-show registrations will also not be refunded.
