Session Description:

This presentation will discuss the Augmentative and Alternative Communication assessment process for IEP teams teaching remotely or in a hybrid learning environment.  Participants will discuss how to consider the strengths and needs of an individual in order to identify the features of an appropriate AAC system through virtual platforms such as Google Classroom and web meeting software (Google Meet, Zoom, etc.).  The steps of the assessment process will be outlined and participants will identify the benefits of matching the technology to an individual's needs rather than matching the individual to the technology.  

Learning Objectives

Participants will: 

1. Compare the components of the feature match assessment to support communication. 
2. Identify three tools to support the virtual AAC Assessment process. 
3. Illustrate how education and coaching can be incorporated to provide an AAC assessment within a virtual environment.
