Breakout Session: Igniting Futures: A Model for Authentic Career Exploration in a Middle School Co-taught Classroom
Description:

Igniting Futures: A Model for Authentic Career Exploration in a Middle School Co-taught Classroom is a one-hour webinar that highlights how collaborative teaching is being used to expand access, engagement, and success for all students in CTE settings. Participants will explore how general and special educators partner within hands-on, skills-based classrooms to support diverse learners while maintaining the rigor and relevance of CTE coursework. The session will share practical examples from Iola High School, including co-planning strategies, instructional roles, and classroom structures that strengthen inclusion, student participation, and real-world learning outcomes.
Speakers:

  • Doug Kerr, an Iola High School special education teacher with teaching emphasis in CTE fields.
  • Dana Daugharthy, serves as the CTE Coordinator and Academic Counselor at Iola High School.

The Inclusive Practitioners' Summit sessions are recorded. This webinar is approved for 1 hour of continuing education clock hours for Kansas-licensed Speech-Language Pathologists by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability ( live attendance only).

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • identify at least three co-teaching models that effectively integrate CTE standards with individualized education goals to ensure curriculum accessibility for all learners.
  • demonstrate how a co-taught career exploration environment empowers students of all ability levels to identify personal strengths and advocate for necessary workplace accommodations.
