Join us for the annual Kansas Infinitec Inclusive Practitioners' Summit. This is an opportunity to learn from Kansas educators who are passionate about inclusion and building capacity by sharing their knowledge. 

Breakout Session: Maximizing Digital and Physical Spaces to Promote UDL Practices 

Description:

Classroom and curricular design is a, “manifestation of educational theories, philosophies and values” (Rands & Gansemertopf, 2017). This session will discuss the connection between universal design principles and universal design for learning, their impact on student engagement, and examples of how the intentional design of both physical and digital spaces can promote UDL adoption and implementation in the science classroom. 

Speaker:

  • Sam Preston is a Infinitec Cadre member and secondary life science teacher at Mill Valley High School in De Soto USD 232. This is 13th year in education and he's always learning and sharing with colleagues. Sam has a B.S.E from Missouri State University in Biology Education/Unified Science and M.S.E. from the University of Kansas in Curriculum & Instruction. 
     

The Inclusive Practitioners' Summit sessions are recorded. This webinar is approved for 1 hour of continuing education clock hours for Kansas-licensed Speech-Language Pathologists by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability ( live attendance only).

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to: 

  • Analyze the origins of Universal Design in architecture and explain how its core principles informed the development of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Describe at least three shifts in classroom design (e.g., layout, furniture, technology, flexibility) when comparing 20th- and 21st-century learning spaces.
  • Demonstrate at least two student-centered UDL instructional practices that intentionally manipulate learning spaces to foster collaboration and engagement among students.

Registration may be cancelled up to 14 days prior to the event for a full refund. Cancellations received within 14 days of the event will not be refunded. No-show registrations will also not be refunded.
