Course description

A session in the series: Student Engagement in a Virtual Setting

The purpose of this webinar is to provide practical strategies to use with students in virtual programs to build relationships and increase student engagement. 

Competence fosters motivation. When students feel capable of understanding and completing tasks, they are more likely to engage actively in learning. A sense of competence fuels intrinsic motivation, which is more sustainable and leads to better academic outcomes. 

Presented by Kristi Teall, Consultant for Michigan Virtual, the purpose of this webinar to is learn how to structure a virtual learning environment so that student's feel competent. If students feel competent as learners, then they are engaged in learning.

  • Describe the importance of competence in promoting student engagement.
  • Identify strategies to strengthen a student's competence.
  • Develop an increased knowledge of strategies to promote student engagement in a virtual learning setting.
  • Identify potential data sources to monitor for student engagement.

A system will know it is eventually successful when it can...

  • Address student engagement through a multi-tiered system of supports.
  • Collect, monitor, and respond to data on student engagement.
