Presentation by Julie Ward, LSCSW and Christin Sheldon, LMSW at the 2017 KSDE Summer Leadership Conference.

As educational leaders, administrators need to possess a strong understanding of secondary trauma and its impact on school staff.  This presentation focused on acknowledging the prevalence of teacher burnout; identifying four major sources of teacher stress, recognizing the major role that administrators play in the prevention of staff burnout; and reflecting on specific actions that administrators could take to prioritize staff self-care in an effort to decrease the impact of burnout within their school communities.
