Click here!\n\nEvery day\, in class rooms from early childhood through high school\, behaviors occur that inte rfere with desired academic and social outcomes.  \;On close examinati on\, however\, these behaviors could actually be the result of social comp etencies that are not developed\, taught\, mastered\, and demonstrated. Fo r students with autism and other complex disabilities\, a delay in interpe rsonal and intrapersonal skills interferes with being successful\, both so cially and academically\, at school\, at home\, and in the community. &nbs p\;\n\nTeaching\, practicing\, modeling\, and encouraging essential person al life habits that are universally understood as making people good human beings and citizens is a Kansans Can outcome. The Kansans Can Competency Framework (Noonan &\; Gaumer-Erickson\, 2016) has been adopted by KSDE and provides a foundation and resources to support social competencies (e. g. interpersonal and intrapersonal skills) for all students. In this profe ssional development opportunity\, TASN ATBS provides a process that includ es assessment\, planning\, and implementing evidence-based strategies for students with disabilities who need specially designed\, tier three instru ction to develop competencies such as assertiveness\, self-regulation\, se lf-awareness\, communication and self-efficacy.\n\nSpecial education teach ers\, related-service providers\, instructional coaches and specialists\, administrators\, and family members will benefit from this opportunity tha t includes creating a plan to implement with a student or group of student s with delays in social-emotional skills. \n\nDuring days one and two of t his three-day training\, participants will design a plan for one of their students or small group of students and return to their classroom to imple ment this plan. This process will be supported by TASN ATBS coaches.
