DESCRIPTION:Prerequisites for this course are one of our verbal behavior tr
aining\, either Boot Camp or Basic Skills. If you have not taken one of th
ese courses\, please contact Jennifer Vest about alternate prerequisites.
Thank you!In this one-day in-person training\, participants will learn abo
ut the VB-MAPP assessment and how to assess and administer the test. The VB
-MAPP is a criterion-reference assessment tool\, curriculum guide\, and sk
ill-tracking system for children with Autism or other children with langua
ge delays. There are five components of the VB-MAPP\, which provide a base
line level of performance\, direction for intervention\, a system for trac
king skill acquisition\, a tool for outcome measures\, and a framework for
curriculum planning. The first component is the milestones assessment\, w
hich measures the child’s existing verbal and related skills. The assess
ment contains 170 measurable learning and language milestones that are seq
uenced and balanced across three developmental levels (0-18 months\, 18-30
months\, and 30-48 months). The skills assessed include mand\, tact\, ech
 oic\, intraverbal\, listener\, motor imitation\, independent play\, social
and social play\, visual perceptual and matching-to-sample\, linguistic s
tructure\, group and classroom skills\, and early academics. The Milestone
s Assessment includes the Early Echoic Skills Assessment (EESA) subtest de
veloped by Barbara E. Esch\, Ph.D.\, CCC-SLP\, BCBA. The second component
is the VB-MAPP Barriers Assessment\, which assesses 24 common learning and
language acquisition barriers faced by children with autism or other deve
lopmental disabilities (i.e.\, behavior problems\, failure to generalize\,
defective social skills\, etc). The third component is the VB-MAPP Transi
tion Assessment\, which contains 18 assessment areas and can help to ident
ify whether a child is making meaningful progress and has acquired the ski
lls necessary for learning in a less restrictive educational environment.
This assessment tool can provide a measurable way for a child’s IEP team
to make decisions and set priorities in order to meet the child’s educa
tional needs. The fourth component is the VB-MAPP Task Analysis and Skills
Tracking\, which further breaks down the skills and serves as a more comp
lete and ongoing learning and language skills curriculum guide. The fifth
and final component is the VB-MAPP Placement and IEP Goals\, which corresp
ond with the four assessments above. This training is designed for people w
ho work with any age\, early education students with significant deficits
in language skills. We encourage speech pathologists\, school psychologist
