This team training is for schools implementing a three-tiered system of support.
Check-In/Check-Out (or the Behavior Education Program) is a Tier II behavior support. CICO is efficient and cost-effective because of the ability to accommodate a number of students and students can enter the program within a few days of referral. Teams of 3-4 people from each school attend the training. The team then returns to train building staff in the intervention.
In this intervention, students receive frequent, structured feedback on expected behaviors throughout the school day. Parents receive daily updates. The implementation team monitors data regularly. This intervention is appropriate for students with chronic moderate attention-seeking or disruptive behavior, or self-management difficulty, but not for students with chronic severe or violent behavior problems. Research has demonstrated decreases in problem behaviors, office discipline referrals, and referrals for special education. CICO is most effective when Tier I systems are implemented with fidelity.
This low-cost intervention is effective at all grade levels when implemented with fidelity.
