Kansas provides two methods for evaluating students with an exceptionality, Patterns of Strengths and Weaknesses (PSW) and Response to Intervention (RtI). This workshop will focus on the Patterns of Strengths and Weaknesses (PSW) model of evaluation, utilizing cognitive correlates to identify specific processes related to academic performance. It will introduce a theoretical framework for interpreting patterns of strengths and weaknesses, how factors of intelligence relate to academic performance, and potential avenues for interventions based on the findings of a comprehensive PSW assessment. This workshop will include examples of tests that can be used to assess the various factors utilizing a cross battery approach, examples of test batteries that would focus in on the referral question and case studies to improve applicability of the approach.
